INTRODUCTION

We all know how Environmental pollution is increasing day by day. It is the responsibility of each individual to look into it.

DEFINITION

To understand the definition of Environmental pollution  we should look into three aspects .

1. Present of contaminants
Contaminants are the particles which causes the pollution. This contaminants or the particles are called the Pollutants.
2. Amount of contaminants
In how much quantity the particles are present in the atmosphere.
3. Contaminants causing harm to life
Seeing the effects of this particles on the organisms.

With these aspects we can define Environmental pollution as, the introduction or the presence of pollutants in the form of chemicals substance or energy that can cause damage to the life on earth.

Also it can be defined as the undesirable change in the physical, chemical or biological characters of Air, Water, Soil, Noise etc.

What is pollution ? What we generally thinks the pollution is that the sky filled with the smoke or the pipeline spilling into the river or the sea.

Major forms of pollution includes Air, Water, Noise, Soil, but the light, radioactive Pollutions are also increasing this days at the alarming rate.

TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

1.Air pollution
2. Water pollution
3. Soil pollution
4. Noise pollution
5. Radioactive pollution

WHAT IS POLLUTION &

CAUSES OF THIS POLLUTION

1.Air Pollution
Air pollution is the most common and dangerous form of pollution and caused mainly due to chimneys, factory release, vehicles, or burning of fire wood, firecrackers, plastic and other materials.
The release of sulphur dioxide and other green house gases from industries directly into the atmosphere causes global warming and has the capacity to cause acid rain. And also it may have health related problems in humans and animals too , which we will be discussing later in this article.

2. Water Pollution
Water pollution means the contamination of physical, chemical and biological properties of water.
It is mainly caused due to the release of domestic waste , industrial waste, savage directly into the water bodies.
Water pollution not only harms the aquatic life but also affects the humans and other organisms by affecting the food chain.

3. Soil Pollution
Soil pollution is also called as Land Pollution. It causes due to the use of insecticides and pesticides in the agriculture also due to the release of industrial waste. Deforestation also adds up to this because the plants cannot grow properly thus they cannot hold the soil and leads to the soil erosion.

4. Noise pollution
When the sound is more than 85dB than it is called as noise. And when this noise reaches our ear it is called as Noise pollution.
Our ear cannot withstand such a loud sound and thus impacts our ear and health too.
It can cause many psychological problems like stress and hypertension.

5. Radioactive Pollution
It is one of the most dangerous pollution because of its permanent effects on environment and humans too.
It is caused by dumping of solid and liquid radioactive substances directly into the soil. And also due to the nuclear weapon testing and explosions.
It can cause different kinds of cancers and also it can permanently change the soil and water of the area.

EFFECTS/ IMPACTS OF THESE POLLUTIONS

1. Air Pollution
- It increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and also respiratory problems such as asthma and lung cancer.
- It causes acid rain
- It also causes headache, dizziness and nasal irritation.
- It causes damage to trees, flowers, fruits
- Ammonia, Chlorine, Hydrogen sulphide are harmful to vegetation.
- Animals also suffer from many skin related problems.

2. Water Pollution

- It damages the food chain .

-It can spread typhoid and cholera from drinking contaminated water.

- Contaminants forms the layer above the water thus does not allowing the sunlight to  enter into the water. So causes death of the aquatic life.

3. Soil Pollution
- Loss of soil and thus the nutrients present in it.
- It can disturb the flora and fauna present in the region .
- Increased salinity of the soil makes it unfit for vegetation.
- Creation of toxic dust also takes place
- It causes the death of organisms present in the soil so ultimately predators depended on it gets affected.

4. Noise Pollution
- Disturbance in sleep is the major problem faced due to the noise pollution all over the world.
- Exposure to the noise can also cause heart related problems.
- It mostly affects the concentration of the individual.
- It also causes nervous and emotional disturbances in the humans.
- If pregnant women is constantly subjected to the loud noise then it may lead to miscarriage.

5. Radioactive Pollution
- It causes diseases such as blood in cough.
- It also causes different types of cancers such as skin cancer, bone cancer.
- It can cause ulcers.
- Eye problems.

PREVENTIVE MAJORS

Air Pollution
-The forest cover must be protected because the forest is needed to increase ans maintain the quality of air in the atmosphere .
There should be restrictions on construction in forest areas
- Automobile engines should be designed in such a manner that it causes lesser pollution.
Old engines should be replaced with newer ones.
Electric cars or bikes should be used.
- Use of public transport instead of your own vehicle.
- Less burning of firewood and firecrackers.

Water Pollution
- Do not dump anything in and around the rivers
- Filter the toxic chemicals before releasing into the water bodies.
- Avoid use of plastic as it takes much longer time to degrade.
- Prevent oil spills.
- Prevent using man made pesticides and insecticides.

Soil Pollution
- Dispose the hazardous waste properly.
- Avoid single use plastic.
- Opt for eco-friendly and reusable packages whenever needed.
- Compost the left over food.

Noise Pollution
- Reduce the volume of T.V, radio and other appliances.
- Use noise absorbent in the machines.
- Reduce the sound of loud speakers.
- Do not use firecrackers which are of loud sound.
- Do not make honk around the school or hospital.

Radioactive Pollution
- High chimney and higher ventilators should be used where there is a radioactive contamination.
- Avoid exposure to radioactive substances.
- Products of radioisotopes should be minimised.
- Proper disposal of radioactive waste.

We have talked so much about the pollution in this article. But there is lot more about the pollution. Also our religion have influence on our environment which you can read here
As years are going , we all have to look towards the environment more seriously. If we do not take appropriate step right now it is going to be very difficult for us and our coming generation in future.
